Portable Fluffy Dinosaurs: The Adolescent Program Raises Chickens

Last October, as part of a larger unit on responsible land use, a group of students in our Adolescent Program (AP, grades 7-9) studied chickens—their anatomy, behavior, physiology, intelligence, needs, environmental impacts etc. It was the beginning of a journey that led to them starting to sell eggs this September as part of their class business, Sunny Orchard.

One of our newest employees here at Hollis Montessori isn’t actually that new. John Schulte, the new HMS Facilities Manager, has been helping out around the school both as a volunteer and as a contractor for several years now. Now that John is an official employee, we have 3 generations of his family at the school. John’s daughter, Sarah Gilleeny, is the lead guide in the Lower Elementary II classroom, and her three children are students at Hollis Montessori.

This spring, our Adolescent Program students participated in a Spanish comic contest through WoolyCon. The comic created by 7th year student William VanUitert won in the category of best original storyline (Spanish I level). A Happy Partnership

A Happy Partnership

In 2017, Hollis Montessori School started our Community Partnership program to reach out to local businesses who share our commitment to high-quality Montessori education in our community. Partners are thanked on our website, on our auction website, and at our Spring Gala. Dr. Art Lyford of The Art of Dentistry in Hollis, and his wife, Sophie Howarth, have been Platinum Level partners every year since the program began.
