In 2017, Hollis Montessori School started our Community Partnership program to reach out to local businesses who share our commitment to high-quality Montessori education in our community. Partners are thanked on our website, on our auction website, and at our Spring Gala.
Dr. Art Lyford of The Art of Dentistry in Hollis, and his wife, Sophie Howarth, have been Platinum Level partners every year since the program began. They are both dedicated members of the Hollis Community. Dr. Lyford was raised and went to school in Hollis, and his dentistry practice has been located here for nearly 30 years. “As members of the community,” Sophie says, “as both a business and a family, it is with pleasure we contribute and support those who have supported us!”
Sophie observes that she and Dr. Lyford “have always tried to give back to our community in a meaningful way which affords the local schools (Hollis Montessori, Hollis Brookline), public spaces such as the playgrounds at the library and Nichols Fields, and Beaver Brook Association the ability to thrive.” By supporting the school, Community Partners like the Art of Dentistry demonstrate their commitment to local institutions.
Dr. Lyford grew up in Hollis in the 60’s and 70’s. He attended Reed College and after five years in viral oncology research (Boston, Hershey, PA, Corvallis, OR) returned to Oregon to obtain his DMD. In 1985 he returned to New Hampshire and opened his practice in 1987. The practice has been located in Hollis since 1992. He is committed to quality dentistry for life which translates to helping people live happier, healthier lives. Over his 30 year practice, Dr. Lyford has positively diagnosed 31 cases of cancer allowing the patients to seek treatment while still in early stages.
Dr. Lyford offers comprehensive esthetic and restorative dentistry, implant and periodontal gum surgery, bone grafting, orthodontics, and TMJ therapy. Apprehensive patients seek Dr Lyford out for his skills with conscious sedation, clinical hypnosis, and empathy. Technology is a cornerstone of the practice, including the use of lasers, 3-D cone beam radiography, and robotic assisted implant placement. Dr. Lyford was the second general dentist in the world to acquire the YOMI robot, and he owns the 34th machine ever made. The practice continues to acquire new technology, as well as developing and honing new techniques.
Sophie says that the organizations and spaces that she and Dr. Lyford support “are treasures for all age groups and the healthy lifestyles available here depend on local support, volunteerism, service and financial support. Supporting our communities is a win-win proposition for all!”
The practice enjoys patients of all ages and welcomes new patients. To learn more about the Art of Dentistry, visit lyfordsmiles.com.
